Funeral Party: The Golden Age of Knowhere ? review

(Jive)

In light of recent reports of the death of rock'n'roll, what a relief that "Funeral Party are here to restore your faith in rock bands", as the press notes for this LA five-piece's debut album claim. This is rock through a 00s filter, informed by emo and the Killers more than their hairier ancestors from previous decades. Pace the title, opener "New York City Moves to the Sound of LA" owes a sizable debt to the DFA label's dance-punk sound ? low-slung bass, jagged guitars, cowbells ? but it's a decent enough start. The rest of the album falls considerably short. The rock resurrection does not start here.
