Game Time: Disproportionate Sizes!

Sometimes game devs spend time meticulously crafting characters with believable body structures. They go to expensive colleges, learn the intricacies of anatomy, study Phi--the whole kit and caboodle.

Other devs just bust out a couple of polygons and call it a day. Is it wrong of them for experimenting? In this week's GameTime, we'll take a look at everything from enormous noses to tiny wings, and other blown up characters that are blowing up the iTunes store.

Tiny Wings

Move over Angry Birds, there's a new sheriff bird-type thing in town. Tiny Wings is a game centering on a bird with -- you guessed it -- tiny wings. As the story goes, the poor bird's wings are too small to fly so it makes up for it by speeding down huge hills and launching off them like Tony Hawk with a jetpack. It's a simple game mechanic, but the kind that works. As you progress, you unlock more objectives, and as you unlock more objectives you earn a higher fever mode score.

It's perfect for a quick sit-down play-through and the game mechanics feels fluid enough that it will quickly become one of your favorite apps.

Sad Princess HD

Perlo Games Limited
$1.99

iPad

The only thing bigger than this game's presence in the App store is the princess's astronomical eyes. In Sad Princess HD, the princess side scrolls her way through thousands of enemies -- enemies she probably saw from continents away, if her perplexing pupils are any indication.

Urban Ninja

Donut Games
Free

iPhone and iPad

Donut Games is one of Mac|Life's favorite game developers. With the exception of that one cat game they made once, they consistently churn out the smoothest butter on this side of the App Store. Urban Ninja is the rule, not the exception. In it you create arrows to jump around, collect stars, and avoid uncertain/totally certain doom. The French Ninja is surprisingly nimble, which is only surprising when you factor in that the poor guy's nose is idiotically huge.

I mean, just look at that beak. No wonder he can fly.

That's it for this week's Game Time. Know a character that fits the bill? Sound off in the comments!
